Joyce Fati Masvaya

Joyce Fati Masvaya (Joy the Science Diplomat) is a Brown University Game Changer Fellow currently undertaking a placement with rani, exploring biosecurity policy, emerging technologies and international governance, with a focus on how European approaches can inform solutions in Africa. A Zimbabwean global health security and biosecurity professional, Joyce works at the intersection of science, policy and biological risk governance. She is the Founder of Biodefenders Africa Network (BAN), an African policy institute advancing responsible governance in biology, AI and emerging technologies. She previously served as a Senior Biosafety Officer with Zimbabwe’s National Biotechnology Authority, and has contributed to international initiatives including the UNODA Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship, BWC Working Group discussions, the CTBTO Women in Science Mentorship Programme and Youth4Disarmament. As a SPAR Fellow, she researched the global biosecurity talent pipeline and governance challenges in biotech and AI.
