Ahead of the third anniversary of the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, PAX sapiens and Pandemic Action Network commissioned a national poll of Americans on their perspectives on pandemic preparedness. The poll was conducted by YouGov and included 2,000 Americans from Jan. 4-19, 2023.

In summary, the poll shows that:

  • Three years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pandemic has left a lasting impact on a large majority of Americans.
  • Roughly two-thirds of Americans think the federal government was not prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic and remain concerned about the growing threat of future deadly pandemics.
  • A strong majority of Americans want to see the federal government invest more in pandemic preparedness both at home and abroad.
  • Most Americans expect that the government will take the necessary steps to be better prepared for the next pandemic.
