This month, Resilience Action Network Africa (RANA) marks a new phase as it becomes fully operationally independent while entering a new era of impact with global partner network, rani – Resilience Action Network International.
Founded in November 2023 as a legally independent entity in Kenya, with a mandate to fill African policy and advocacy gaps, advance progress on Africa’s pandemic PPR capacities, and strengthen Africa’s resilience, RANA now includes more than 110 partners and active working groups in Uganda, Kenya, South Africa and Sierra Leone, with planned expansion into Zambia and Mozambique this year.
Built on networked advocacy, RANA connects advocates working across agendas, regions, and missions to build advocacy power from the community level for societal resilience. RANA’s networks take the inputs of those closest to the issues, co-creating advocacy agendas and strategies and delivering them to those in authority – locally, nationally and internationally.
RANA focuses on Africa‑led solutions. This new phase of operational independence helps accelerate regional partnerships, pivot to locally-owned approaches – all while continuing to draw on rani and RANA’s shared global network and experience.
RANA and rani remain closely aligned programmatically and operationally, maintaining interdependence where it strengthens impact. Partners can expect continuity of collaboration, strengthened local accountability, and intensified engagement with African governments, regional institutions, and civil society at the community level to convert shared evidence and advocacy into concrete funding and policy outcomes.
RANA’s Executive Director Aggrey Aluso shared, ‘Becoming fully operationally autonomous is a milestone that recognises RANA’s growth and commitment to African‑led solutions. This phase lets us deepen locally-rooted partnerships and accelerate action across the continent, while continuing to collaborate closely with rani and our global allies. At this critical moment of inflection and change, we are mobilising advocates across the continent to meet the moment. I’m proud to be leading an incredible team at RANA and working with our growing network to advance Africa’s resilience in the face of shifts, change, and crises.’
Rani’s Executive Director and Founder Eloise Todd said, ‘This is an exciting milestone that Aggrey and I have worked on since RANA’s conception in 2022 and then launch in 2023. Walking the path of equal partnership in actions, not just words, will inspire better outcomes in our work – we’re already seeing and feeling the impact of our new partnership from Nairobi to Brussels. We share a strong commitment to driving policy and advocacy for societal resilience that is rooted in community-driven insights, and the rani-RANA partnership allows us to do that. Our next phase will embed our partnership in a way that sets up future leaders of RANA and rani for success’.
RANA and rani welcome continued collaboration with donors, governments, networks, and civil society partners. For enquiries, partnership proposals, or to learn more about the ongoing joint work of RANA and rani, contact: info@rani.co.
